colorful drinksThe Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission’s Investigation and Enforcement Division plays an important role in the agency’s enforcement of the liquor laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The division is charged with preventing the sale or delivery of alcoholic beverages to underage individuals, preventing the sale or delivery of alcoholic beverages to intoxicated individuals and potential drunk drivers, preventing the sale of alcoholic beverages that are illegally imported or purchased from an illegal source (allowing for tax evasion by the licensee), and preventing the tampering or dilution of alcoholic beverages.

Preventing illegal gambling, particularly poker machines and other electronic gambling devices along with preventing the sale or delivery of illegal narcotics on licensed premises is another objective of the enforcement/investigation division.

The division also works to prevent undisclosed ownership of licensed establishments by individuals or criminal organizations and also works to provide suppliers, wholesalers and retailers of the alcoholic beverage industry with a fair and even playing field to conduct their licensed business.

The ABCC has received national recognition from the US Department of Justice Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators for its enforcement programs to prevent underage drinking and drunk driving.
