Dan Newcomb, Principal of Atlantic License Brokers, recently attended the 2013 National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago.  Walking many miles of the show floor alongside two current, successful full service restaurant owners provided Dan with a direct perspective of the pressing issues facing operators today.

In addition to many new products and restaurant industry trends, attention was drawn to one prominent concern echoed among many industry veterans.  That is the ability of patron reviews to go viral online before the restaurant owner has had a chance to address the issue and make corrections in an attempt to immediately improve the consumer’s experience.

Restaurant review sites, such as Yelp, have changed the restaurant industry over the last decade and have become a standard among foodies after both positive and negative dining experiences.  Some would argue that Yelp and its competitors have become the primary platform for the old adage, “word of mouth.”
